The forested area in Armenia is 300,000 ha or about 10% of the total territory, so Armenia ranks among the countries with low forest cover. The world average is 31%. The country's forests provide many important benefits: economic, environmental, social and cultural. In addition to recreational and aesthetic value, forests maintain the water balance of ecosystems, improve soil fertility to increase agricultural productivity, and protect soil from erosion and flooding.
